And if you feel inspired by her, then why not enter our latest design competition where we are on the hunt for a successor to our iconic Patrice design. The ‘Pimp Our Print’ competition is open to all budding designers across the globe regardless of age, experience or location.
As well as the chance for their print and name to appear on a range of Brabantia canisters, and potentially a whole product range, the winner will also receive a three-day trip for two with tickets to Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 in Milan, luxury hotel accommodation, transport and spending money!
How does it feel one year on from winning Design Your Bin?
I can’t believe it has been a year already! It’s been a fab year with lots of new opportunities for me. It’s gone really fast though!
What was your proudest moment after winning the competition?
It was really great seeing mine and Dom’s bins pride of place on the Brabantia stand at Exclusively Housewares and getting some really amazing feedback from the very lovely Brabantia Team. It’s also brilliant and slightly surreal to see my design on sale on the Brabantia website. I loved the attention from the newspapers too – my 15 minutes of fame!
What’s been the biggest change in your professional life since winning the competition?
The biggest change in my professional life has really been the confidence winning has given me in my own ability as a designer. It’s really difficult to put into words but it has been life changing – thank you!
Is there any big news you can share with us since winning?
I’ve been really busy, but it’s all good! I’ve put together my own range of greeting cards which I sell online and also wholesale. I have been approached by a large card company with a view to licensing some of my designs which is really great news and what I am aiming to do more of going forward.
I have also become a member of an independent artist run gallery – The Green Man Gallery in Buxton – where I can display and sell my work and I also run a Little Green Art Club for kids ages 6+.
Are you going to enter the Pimp our Print competition this year?
I have already entered! I’d love to design canisters and more, I think that the retro Brabantia designs that have inspired the competition are a lot of fun and I have so many ideas of what could be done, I will probably do an extra entry before the competition closes.
What would you say to anyone who might be considering entering the PoP competition but has not got round to it yet?
I would say ‘have you seen the prize??? You get to go to Milan!!!’ and ‘what are you waiting for?’ Winning this competition has been brilliant for me in so many different ways – the prizes, contacts, confidence and opportunities. Also, you can enter as many times as you like… so go for it & good luck!
And we always have to ask… what Brabantia product would you never be without?!
I love all my Brabantia products and wouldn’t part with any of them! At the moment, I am trying to be more organised (it’s a work in progress), I have these but as they are too nice for kitchen storage I keep them on my dressing table and arrange my make up in them.
I also love my new shopping bags – it was a lovely surprise when they arrived a few weeks ago, I take one everywhere with me!
For a chance to see your design go global like Kate’s enter our Pimp Our Print competition today! Good luck!
