The festive season is coming to an end but there’s still the very important social event of New Years Eve to plan for! After all the big meals of the Christmas period, we think fruity cocktails, simple yet sophisticated canapés and fabulous finger foods are the way to go on New Year’s Eve.
Here are our essential tips for fun and delicious party foods to help get your party started in style on 31 December.
Why put off your resolutions until 1 January? Delicious dips don’t have to be loaded with calories. This gorgeous blood orange and avocado salsa with pomegranate seeds, for instance, is low in fat but high in flavour. Or how about this creamy, vice-free garlic and herb dip, made with light cream cheese and fat-free yoghurt.
Canapes are the perfect party food, eaten in one quick mouthful and barely interrupting your conversations. These polenta bites with fig, red onion and goat’s cheese are so tasty served either hot or cold, so it really doesn’t matter if your guests are running late. Smoked salmon is, as we all know, the perfect partner to a glass of bubbly, so these smoked salmon and crab canapés will make your guests feel truly spoiled.
A New Year’s Eve party is not a New Year’s Eve party without a fun assortment of cocktails to offer your guests. We love Ryan Chetiyawardana’s cocktails, particularly his use of festive spices in both the Fireside Flip and the NY Toast. Make sure you have an equally delicious selection of alcohol-free cocktails for the designated drivers. Our favourite mocktails include this zingy mint lemonade and The Real Shirley Temple, which apparently was created for a young Shirley in a Beverley Hills bar!
Cupcakes aren’t just for children; they make wonderful finger food for grown up parties too. And served en masse they always receive a ‘wow’ response! These tried and tested cupcakes are almost too pretty too eat, and we adore these mini pop-‘em-in-the-mouth cheesecakes.
What makes your parties go with a bang? What are your favourite finger foods and celebration drinks to serve your party guests?
