Please vote for her retro bin design – ‘I’ve BIN Romantic’ – on our Facebook Design Tug of War competition here.
Last week we caught up with Joran Van der Haar, designer of our new ‘London’ retro bin, the two designers are going head to head in a Design Tug of War Competition as we speak, so don’t forget to vote!
“My work is characterized by fresh, bright colours and lots of my inspiration comes from nature, especially flowers.
When designing the new retro bin I continued with the floral theme and style of my Brabantia ironing board cover and wanted the bin design to have a romantic and playful feel with fresh colours. I wanted to create an atmosphere that would conjure up images and the feeling you get when the door is open in the Summer – fresh, fun with flowers, creating a romantic feeling, hence the name ‘I’ve BIN Romantic’.
After my blossom painting which inspired my ironing table cover design, I am now working on a poppy painting with bright, fresh colours.
My last great painting was of two cats, specially commissioned for a cat lover!
In addition, I get inspired by things from everyday life: a newspaper article, a picture, a child’s drawing, a story from a magazine and shopping.
Meanwhile I have my own company ‘Stijl met SIMMER’ and am busy with our website which will go live soon. It is a design company focusing on illustrations, corporate identities and logos, print and pattern designs. Here are some of my t-shirt prints!
I can put all my creativity into these projects and I love creating an image/face/style for companies and products.
It’s been amazing to use my creativity for a design for the retro-bin. And even nicer to see my design in my own hometown in the window of the Brabantia Eindhoven concept-store!
I am, together with a colleague, entrepreneur and interior designer, busy with preparations for the DDW 2012 (Dutch Design Week) 20 t / m 28 October in Eindhoven.
Everyone is welcome to come and see us at this exhibition!”
